訟

Sòng · Conflict

Two things moving apart cannot be argued back together.

The judgment

訟:有孚,窒。 惕中吉。 終凶。 利見大人,不利涉大川。

There is sincerity, but it is blocked. Caution in the middle brings good fortune; going all the way brings misfortune. It helps to see a good judge; it does not help to cross the great water.

The image

象曰:天與水違行,訟。君子以作事謀始。

Sky and water move apart: conflict. A capable person plans the beginning carefully, so disputes do not start.

Win the argument before it starts, or stop before it becomes a case.
